A tour at the Ballard Locks' visitor center. Students in the Marine Protected Areas and Reserves Workshop balance a stuffed orca on a ring, by maneuvering strings attached to the ring. The lesson was used to show how easy it is to ‘drop' a species if its supportive links are unstable. Director of the Seattle Aquarium, Mr. Bill Arntz, welcomes Ocean Explorer Dr. Sylvia Earle. Experiments with CO2 and seawater. Students in the Ocean Exploration Workshop use nautical charts to plan research dives at two locations in Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary - later in the workshop they practiced operating a remotely operated vehicle in the Aquarium's giant tank.
