Other (describe)
Road and canal systems constructed to access timber resources beginning in the 1800s until 1988 have impacted the hydrology of the wetlands and subsequently reduced their functional values. The purpose of this project is to formulate a plan, design specifications, and establish water level control to approximate the natural hydrological regime of approximately 3,000 acres of altered wetlands. This project will augment ongoing efforts of the US Fish and Wildlife Service to restore more than 50,000 acres of wetlands in similar condition on the adjacent Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge.
