The Rains Mill dam is a privately owned dam, located in Princeton, NC. The dam is 11 feet wide at the base, 2 feet wide at the top and spans 275 feet across the Little River. The removal of this dam is a voluntary action by the owners of the dam and would free 49 miles of tributary for spawning of anadromous fish species, such as American Shad, striped bass, and Atlantic sturgeon, as well as improve the water quality; both important aspects of North Carolina's coastal ecosystem. The US Marine Corps removed this dam using plastic explosives during December 1999.

4. Goals/Benefits (quantify where possible using measures of success list) Was a cost-benefit study conducted for this project? yes/no If yes, provide a summary of findings.
