Other (describe)
The 9000 foot long, 90 foot-wide authorized navigation channel has expanded through erosion to a width of 400 feet along much of the length of the cut. This expansion has occurred due to wind blown wave action, tidal currents, and boat wakes. Escarpments, 10-25 feet high, occur along much of the water frontage, and tidal marshes are being undercut and lost adjacent to environmentally sensitive lands.
Both structural and operational modifications will be considered. Structural alternatives include re-establishment of marsh by toe-of-bank, disposal of dredged material from maintenance dredging of Snows Cut, creation of fish habitat, preservation of existing recreation lands by rock placement and bio-technical slope protection methods, and removal of tree trunks and stumps from the shoreline which would prevent continual gouging of slopes during high tides and wakes from commercial and recreational boat traffic.
