3. Project description (100 words or less)

  Th proposed work will be conducted on the ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge, which is part of the ACE Basin Project. The ACE Basin Project is a major conservation effort of cooperating private landowners, organizations and agencies working together to protect and enhance lands within the Ashepoo, Combahee, and Edisto rivers basin. The ACE Basin is nationally recognized as a unique natural resource area.
  The project consists of constructing perimeter dikes around the impoundments adjacent to the Combahee river and it's tributaries, installing a cross-dike in one 455 acre impoundment, replacing 12 existing water control devices, and adding 3 additional water control structures. Also included in the rehabilitation project is development of a nature/interpretive trail and a weatherproof wildlife observation tower along the impoundment dikes.
