Other (describe)
Removal of fill material and implementation of sediment catchment basins to restore wetlands bordering the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's Honouliuli National Refuge in West Loch. Staff from the refuge will carry out water sampling and habitat/abundance monitoring.
Revegetation is planned along the wetlands of middle Loch and additional wetlands enhancement is proposed for Waiawa Stream. Revegetation will induce deposition of fine-grained sediments. Replanting will also help dampen wave energy along the shoreline and reduce resuspension of sediment by waves.
Restoration of wetlands bordering the U.S. Fish and Wildlife's Honouliuli National Wildlife Refuge and implementation of Non-point Source controls in the watershed will initiate the program with a goal of reducing the contaminated sediment loading to Pearl Harbor by 50%. Environmental benefits will be reduced degradation of wetlands habitat from ongoing sediment loading and reduced disturbance of benthic life due to continous dredging.
