3. Project description (100 words or less)
A public outreach program organized to increase awareness of the need to protect the watershed and to improve its water quality. Major task will include identifying interested parties and help organize a watershed management team; help schools and community groups develop multi-media and printed outreach materials, publish news releases/articles on pollution prevention, and distribute materials to schools and the community through multi-media avenues, newspapers, brochures, and flyers; and construct and maintain debris barriers across Ulehawa Stream and its east tributary.

Project goals are to "foster community awareness, watershed stewardship, participation in stream and wetlands restoration and improvement, and livestock management; and to reinforce Hawaiian traditions of caring for the land through education in the schools and community."
