100 acres of tidal wetlands in Old Lyme is being taken over by phragmites in an area that once supported a species rich ecosystem containing spartina and wild rice. The Nature Conservancy has started efforts to do rodeo spraying in a three-year effort to totally remove the phragmites. Private contributions have supplied funding of $120,000, but TNC requires $100,000 in additional funding to complete it plans.
