The Lock, Telos and Matagamon Dams are located in the head waters of the East Branch Penobscot River. These dams are no longer needed and are not feasible to maintain by the current owner, East Branch Improvement Company (EBIC). If these dams are abandoned and allowed to deteriorate, there would be an enormous amount of both fisheries and wildlife habitat degradation. It is a high priority to acquire these dams and manage the area. EBIC would like to transfer the ownership of the dams and the surrounding land in order to facilitate restoration of the area. Restoration of these structures will ensure suitable water levels for fish and wildlife in over 15,000 acres on three lakes, riparian areas and associated wetlands.
