The town of East Machias owns the dam. It is partially breached and the remains hinder anadromous fish migration. Fish passage would be improve if portions of this breached dam were removed. Complete removal would improve fish passage as well as fish habitat by creating more potential for resting pools. The Coastal America team is pursuing this as a Navy SeaBee training exercise for dam removal. Other potential programs include the USACE Section 206 Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration Program.
