The Brownville Dam is located on the Pleasant River, just upstream of the state Route 11 road bridge. It is partially breached and the remaining structure impounds about one and a half miles of the river. The remaining structure is the only impediment to adult salmon migration on the Pleasant River. There is an opportunity for dam removal and recreational area development at this site, as the current owner wishes to sell both the dam and the adjoining property. The Department of the Army has agreed to remove this dam as a military training exercise.
