Salisbury’s Beeslick Preserve is a 159-acre Nature Conservancy Land Trust, which contains a 30-acre pond, 60-acre rich fen, and 45 acres of forested swampland. Strips of the rich fen are being taken over by purple loosestrife and phragmites. A culvert on an access road and beavers are also restricting the flow of water through the preserve. The Preserve is being targeted for remediation because of rare plant species that have been targeted for conservation by TNC and the CT DEP. TNC estimates 150 person hours will be required to deal with the invasives, at a cost of about $2,000.
