3. Project description (100 words or less)

The 100+ year old mill dam was 14 feet high and 80 feet long. It is breached 6 feet from the top and is now an 8 foot high barrier to migrating fish (alewives). The remnants will be removed by August 1, 1999. The removal of this dam is needed to allow passage to the new fishway being installed in August 1999 at the outlet of Pleasant Lake. Over 250 ft. of stream also will be dredged to remove an 8 foot deep accumulation of lumber, bark, sawdust and debris from the old dam. This will improve stream habitat and water quality.
