The COE, NOAA and EPA are cooperating on studying numerous abandoned dredging material disposal sites (DMMS) in an effort to determine if future disposal of clean dredged material should be directed to cap these sites. This would reduce the overall regional exposure of biota to contaminants. Sites such as the Boston Lightship DMMS in Massachusetts Bay and the Bridgeport Harbor DMMS in Long Island Sound are being examined for the residual chemical signature and the level of biological activity.
