3. Project description (100 words or less)
Existing plant has been in operation for over 40 years although it was upgraded in 1985. The plant is reaching it's organic design capactiy of .49 mgd. Proposed new plant consists of two .5 mgd package plants built in parrallel train.
The Dauphin Island Water Authority proposes to place bids on the market by mid February, 2000, for a design/build contract that will include two.5 mgd packaged wastewater plants with the capability to meet the 95% removal of BODs, 95% removal of TSSs, 97% removal of Nitrates, and 99% removal of Phosphates regulations currently being enforced in Florida. Included in the proposal will be plans to be able to reuse the sewer effluent for irrigation at the local golf course. The plant will have to be designed and built on a very small footprint and at the same time the existing plant will have to continue to operate in a satisfactory manner. The Authority has applied for State Resolving Fund monies and conventional financing. Any Federal or other State funding could be instrumental in making this project possible.
