3. Project description (100 words or less)
The restoration of Chester Creek would improve the quality of fish and wildlife resources, both directly and indirectly, over the period of approximately four years. Fish passage and wetlands restoration are priority projects and would be constructed first. The current fish passage functions as an obstacle for anadramous fish. This passage would be replaced by a new culvert system that would allow passage at all tide levels. Wetlands would be restored in Westchester Lagoon for the benefit of waterfowl and to provide habitat for wintering salmonids. Wetlands would also serve to filter out anthropogenic contaminants and reduce the likelihood of flood damage. Additional improvements are planned elsewhere along the creek to aid in restoration of the watershed.
