The Coastal America Partnership and the Commission for Environmental Cooperation’s North American Marine Protected Area Network (NAMPAN) will be hosting the premiere of a series of short films about marine protected areas, produced in collaboration with the Coastal Ecosystem Learning Center Network (CELC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The evening will also feature a display of winning North American artwork and photos from the Coastal America Student Ocean Art Contest and selected short videos from the Coastal America Student Summit. A ceremony to recognize the student art winners will include remarks and presentation of awards by distinguished government officials and prominent artists, including Jim Toomey, creator of the humorous cartoon strip, “Sherman’s Lagoon.”
Dr. Jane Lubchenco, Undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator will provide a keynote and Dr. Sylvia Earle, renowned oceanographer and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence will offer inspirational remarks.
A reception will follow with interactive displays, exhibits, and book and poster signings.
