In addition to restoration and protection projects, a central focus of the Pacific Islands Regional Implementation Team (PIRIT) is education through partnerships with the Waikiki Aquarium Coastal Ecosystem Learning Center and the University of Hawaii, Honolulu. The Aquarium has enhanced their facilities with new exhibits and programs. The Aquarium also works with he local community on education projects and hosts and attends national education conferences.
Additionally, the PIRIT is continually seeking interested participants among its regional corporations to establish a Corporate Wetlands Restoration Partnership (CWRP) in the Pacific Islands. Once organized, the Pacific Islands CWRP will garner the resources of private industry to support restoration projects and education programs.
